About Us

vision

Imagine if the child in detention was yours. In North Carolina, 29 out of every 1,000 youth aged 8-17 are sent to detention centers (NCDPS & NCSBI, 2023). This statistic is more than just a number - it represents a child, a family, and a future. As someone who was incarcerated at 19, I know the importance of guidance and support. The T.A.G. Program aims to reduce this number by providing at-risk youth with a realistic understanding of the consequences of their choices. Our goal is to empower them with knowledge, support, and guidance to make better decisions and avoid the path that leads to detention centers. By working together, we can make a difference and help our youth thrive.

history

The Transforming Adolescent Growth (T.A.G.) Program was founded by Brandon Rice and B-Nice Communications, LLC, with a mission to empower youth with knowledge and support to make informed choices. While rooted in powerful phone-based mentorship—where formerly and currently incarcerated individuals offer a calm, realistic perspective on the consequences of gang and prison life—T.A.G. has evolved its approach to include structured, on-site educational courses. By applying custom, step-by-step curricula directly into facilities, the program pairs lived-experience mentorship with actionable real-world toolkits. Through this combined approach of personal guidance and classroom instruction, T.A.G. provides a supportive, non-judgmental space designed to reduce youth incarceration rates and help young people permanently thrive.

How it works

How our program works

Supporting At-Risk Teens through Mentorship

We drive change through two primary models:

1. Telephone Intervention (For Parents, Guardians, & Community Programs)

Our unique telephone intervention offers direct, impactful redirection for at-risk youth in the community:

  • Step 1: Contact Us – Reach out to our Executive Director via our website, email, or phone.
  • Step 2: Schedule – We coordinate a call with a highly vetted volunteer. Note: A parent, guardian, or program director must be present.
  • Step 3: The Call – Volunteers share raw, realistic insights on the true consequences of gang and street life to help youth make informed choices.
  • Step 4: Guidance – We provide ongoing support to help your teen navigate challenges and establish structured goals.

2. The Institutional Course (For Facilities)

We utilize structured, classroom-based programming inside correctional environments to target and reduce recidivism:

  • The Curriculum – A 6-week intensive course powered by our official workbook, "TAG Own Your Future: A Guide to Self-Transformation and Survival," created by Executive Director Asya Hall.
  • On-Site Instruction – Led directly on-site by Founder Brandon Rice alongside facility-based mentors, guiding youth through identity mapping, financial literacy, and career readiness.
  • Our Impact – Currently launched inside Richmond Correctional Institution and built to scale, providing a vital framework for long-term stabilization and re-entry.
